Ten common tree mistakes to avoid.
1. WATER, over watering or under watering. Get a meter and find out what is going on a foot down.
2. Mower/Weed Eater Damage, create a tree well around the tree and never let the mower get near.
3. Planting too deep, when a tree is planted do not plant it too deep.
4. Pruning in the Spring, you need to prune in the fall and winter.
5. Over fertilizing with nitrogen, limit the lawn fertilizer and use organic on the trees.
6. Pruning lower branches too early, you need linear taper in the trunk development so allow them to grow as long as possible.
7. Doing systemic insect drench in summer, this should be done in the fall or spring.
8. Packing the soil next to the tree, the roots need oxygen and this will put a tree in decline.
9. Cutting exposed roots in the lawn, you are watering too much, mulch over roots.
10. Carving your initials in the tree. The cambium is just below the bark so it's like cutting your arteries.
